Week 1 Reflective Journal

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is a degree program that is designed for nurses
seeking the highest level of academic and professional achievement (McCauley et al., 2020).
Therefore, the DNP program prepares nurse leaders to serve in various positions, including
advanced clinical, executive, educational, and research within the healthcare industry (McCauley
et al., 2020). Also, DNP-prepared nurse leaders can provide patient care while still taking on
leadership responsibilities. DNP leaders are also responsible for managing healthcare

Professionals educate and mentor nurses. They advocate for policy development. They engage in research to improve patient care outcomes (McCauley et al., 2020).

DNP nurse leaders face cultural, ethical, and legal issues. This reflective journal will discuss these impacts. It will cover how I plan to address them with co-workers and other leaders. I will outline my responsibilities in ensuring policies are in place. Lastly, I will discuss my leadership philosophy.

How do cultural, ethical, and legal issues affect the DNP leader?
Communication barriers are a significant cultural issue for DNP nurse leaders (Lyman et al., 2022). DNP nurses interact with colleagues from varied ethnic backgrounds. They must ensure their juniors are competent to serve diverse patient populations. It is essential that care respects clients’ rights and values (Nair & Adetayo, 2019).

Ethical issues also affect DNP leaders. These issues include respecting patient autonomy. Leaders must involve patients in decisions about their care. They must maintain patient confidentiality (Nair & Adetayo, 2019).

How do cultural, ethical, and legal issues affect the DNP leader?
